First Touch Soccer Academy (FTSA) philosophy is to ensure that players are based in ability appropriate training groups to ensure optimal benefit from the training program. The ages stated in the descriptions of our training clinics often correlate to a phase in a player’s Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD), however a player will not be restricted to that group if their ability dictates otherwise.  

FUNdamental Training Clinic (ages 5-8) offers players starting out in the game an opportunity to train in a fun and energetic training environment. Players will maximize their time on task in these sessions and focus on inside of the foot receiving techniques and basic ball manipulation work.

Mastering Technique Training Clinic (ages 9-11) offers players an opportunity to master some core, technical elements of the game. Players will begin to receive the ball with varying degrees of difficulty and pressure. A decision making component to their development is introduced as they begin to understand what dictates their choice in how they receive the ball. Players are understood to be in the ‘learning to train’ phase of LTAD and thus a large focus will be spent instilling lifelong training habits.

Training to Compete Clinic (ages 12-14) offers players an opportunity to further develop more advanced receiving techniques. A players speed of reception, decision and action will be trained through a demanding training environment. It is understood at this phase in a player’s development they will be competing at some level and thus a focus on competition, and what competing means, will be incorporated throughout all training sessions.

Performance Training Clinic (ages 15-18) offers the players an opportunity to maximize their preparation for competitive action. 100% of the training time will be spent with players under pressure from defenders. All receiving skills will be taught in game related situations, thus developing not only individual, tactical skills but also small group tactical understanding and implementation.
